The Kansas City Royals had a busy Friday afternoon, announcing several roster moves.

Mike Moustakas, meanwhile, has been placed on the bereavement/family emergency list. Moose will be eligible to return May 11.

The Royals also placed lefty starter Jason Vargas on the 15-day DL with a left flexor strain, retroactive to May 6, making him eligible for reinstatement May 21. Right-hander Yohan Pino got the call from Omaha to take Vargas' place.

Drew Butera, acquired in a trade from the Angels on Thursday, will be in uniform for Friday night's game against Detroit. Catcher Francisco Pena was optioned to Triple A to make room on the 25-man roster.
