Roman Approval wins Belmont feature by a head over Munjaz

NEW YORK (AP) Roman Approval held off Munjaz by a head Thursday in the $80,000 allowance feature on the turf at Belmont Park.

It was the first win in 10 starts this season for the 5-year-old trained by Mike Maker.

Ridden by Jose Ortiz, Roman Approval ran 1 1/4 miles in 2:00.23 over the firm course and paid $5.30, $3 and $2.50 as the 8/5 favorite.

Munjaz returned $4.40 and $3.40, and Gold Shield paid $3.80 to show.
