GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers was the runaway winner at the quarterback position of the NFL's 2014 first-team All-Pro selections. But it wasn't his own name showing up atop the list that Rodgers wanted to talk about. He was more excited about teammate John Kuhn getting the nod at fullback.
"I'm especially excited for John," Rodgers said. "I mean, John's had a great year. He got the Pro Bowl selection and All-Pro -- that's a big deal. People always talk about, it's an honor to be voted into the Pro Bowl, but it's extra sweet with the All-Pro team because of the people who vote for that."
Rodgers earned 44 of the 50 votes at quarterback, decisively beating out Tony Romo (three votes), Tom Brady (two) and Andrew Luck (one).
Kuhn received 18 votes, slightly edging out Kansas City's Anthony Sherman (14) and Oakland's Marcel Reece (12).
While this is the second time Rodgers has been a first-team All-Pro (also in 2011 when he was the league's Most Valuable Player), it's the first time Kuhn has been recognized as the NFL's best fullback.
"It's something that you always kind of watched in your years of being a football fan, 'That guy's All-Pro; he's one of the best at his position,'" Kuhn said. "It's nice to have that side by side with my name."
The Packers were very close to having four first-team All-Pro selections. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson and guard Josh Sitton both finished with the third-most votes. Those positions only have the top-two vote-getters elected as first-team All-Pros, meaning both had to settle for second-team honors. It's Sitton's second consecutive year being a second-team All-Pro, but this is a first for Nelson to be among the list on any level.
Nelson's 15 votes landed him behind Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown (49) and Dallas' Dez Bryant (24). Sitton's 22 votes had him just behind Cowboys rookie Zack Martin (24), with Baltimore's Marshal Yanda having a sizeable lead with 38 votes.
"I think it's great," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "Jordy and Josh and Aaron and John Kuhn being selected for the All-Pro, you always look for those types of things and you congratulate those guys. It represents the kind of football team we have. Very happy for those guys."
Bryan Bulaga received one vote at tackle, and Corey Linsley had one vote at center.
Defensively, Clay Matthews got five votes at outside linebacker and one vote at inside linebacker.
Packers give front office promotion: In an effort to make sure the team doesn't lose one of its top advisors to general manager Ted Thompson, Green Bay promoted Eliot Wolf to director of player personnel. Wolf, whose father Ron is a former Packers GM, has been with the Packers for 11 seasons. He had been the director of pro personnel for the past three years.
