Reports: FSU-Ole Miss to open 2016 season in Orlando's Citrus Bowl
Florida State will play Mississippi in a neutral-site game at the Orlando Citrus Bowl on Sept. 5, 2016, according to multiple reports.
The Seminoles opened this season at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, against Oklahoma State. The announced crowd was 61,521.
With the new College Football Playoff rankings putting undefeated FSU third behind one-loss Oregon, an emphasis will be placed on scheduling quality non-conference opponents. Until losing on Oct. 25, the Rebels ranked third in the nation.
Ole Miss and Florida State have met just once -- in 1961. The Rebels won 33-0.
The Citrus Bowl, which opened 78 years ago, recently underwent a $207 million renovation that included new seating, luxury suites, concessions, restrooms, Wi-Fi and a new video board.
It already hosts the Russell Athletic Bowl, Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, the Florida Classic between Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M as well as Florida High School Athletic Association football championships.
Beginning next year, it will also welcome the Cure Bowl, a new addition to the bowl season.
