Report: T.O. considers suing indoor team
Terrell Owens might have been given one of the worst severance packages in history when he was released by the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League on Tuesday, but his legal team might not let him go away quietly.
TMZ.com is reporting that the receiver is considering taking legal action against the team, claiming they breached his contract when they released him for not attending a team appearance at a children's hospital.
A source close to Owens told the website that the receiver believed the terms of his contract did not require him to attend the appearance.
On Tuesday, the Wranglers released the 38-year-old former NFL star.
"It is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field," Wranglers owner Jon Frankel said in a statement released on the team's website. "We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community.
"The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for Mr. Owens was his no-show to a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital with other Wrangler players and coaches."
TMZ.com reported on Wednesday that beside being released by the team, the Wranglers notified Owens in writing that he had 48 hours to vacate the house they provided him to live in, return the 2012 Jeep Cherokee they gave him to drive and allegedly bought him out of his 50 percent ownership share of the team by writing him a $50 check.
Owens played in eight of the Wranglers' 11 games this season. He caught 35 passes for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns.
