Through two days of free agency, it appeared that the market for wide receiver Greg Jennings was going to be thin.
That may be changing Thursday, though, as Jennings is set to visit with the Minnesota Vikings. The visit was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by FOX Sports.
Jennings is the top free-agent wide receiver still available. Mike Wallace signed a six-year, $60 million deal (with $30 million guaranteed) with the Miami Dolphins, Wes Welker signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Denver Broncos and Danny Amendola agreed to terms with the New England Patriots for five years, $31 million ($10 million guaranteed).
Jennings, 29, is three years older than Wallace and two years older than Amendola but two years younger than Welker. In free agency, sometimes age can mean everything for the value of a player.
Multiple reports suggested that Jennings was initially seeking Wallace-type money (average of $12 million per year), which turned off potentially interested suitors.
If Jennings' asking price has dropped, the Vikings are a logical landing spot for him after Minnesota just traded its star receiver, Percy Harvin.
Jennings, a second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2006, has spent his entire career so far with the franchise. Signing with the division-rival Vikings would deplete the Packers while giving Minnesota a receiver just as good as what it lost in Harvin.
It's still possible that Jennings could wind up back in Green Bay. But, as is almost always the case with Packers general manager Ted Thompson, that would likely happen only if Jennings' asking price fell further.
