The Indians were one of nearly 20 teams that were on-hand to watch free-agent right-hander Joel Hanrahan's showcase at the University of Tampa on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
The All-Star closer is 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery, but scouts attending the showcase said Hanrahan looks to be ahead of schedule, already throwing 87-93 MPH.
The Indians will likely have to outbid a number of potential suitors vying for Hanrahan's services, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports:
"The Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Royals, Rockies and Indians are among the teams scouting Hanrahan, but that's only a fraction of those there to see the hard-throwing right-hander."
"Judging by the early reviews, don't be surprised if there's quite a bit of competition for the two-time All-Star."
Hanrahan, 32, posted a 2.59 ERA and saved 76 games for the Pirates from 2009-12 before a trade that sent him to Boston last offseason.
