Report: Cavaliers considering claim on Mike Miller
The Cavaliers are reportedly considering making a claim on veteran swingman Mike Miller. The Miami Heat placed Miller on waivers using the amnesty clause on Tuesday. The provision allows any team under the salary cap to place bids on Miller, but he will become an unrestricted free agent if he goes unclaimed.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the Cavaliers are one of the teams interested in Miller, but are said to be 'weighing the issues regarding his back'. The story notes Miller's friendship with LeBron James, which could help the team lure him back in 2014.
Cleveland has made several free-agency signings, including center Andrew Bynum, guard Jarrett Jack and forward Earl Clark, with a focus on returning to the playoffs next season. Miller is close friends with LeBron James, and the Cavaliers are planning to make a run to re-sign him in 2014 free agency.
FOXSportsOhio.com's Sam Amico was asked about Miller in his weekly NBA chat on Wednesday and said there may be interest from the Cavaliers, but Miller will likely get more than they have to offer.
Miller averaged 4.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 59 regular season games last season. In 17 playoff games Miller averaged 3.4 points per game.
