The Reds are getting "very close" to wrapping up a long-term deal with pitcher Homer Bailey, according to multiple reports out of Reds camp in Goodyear, Ariz.
Bailey confirmed to reporters at Reds camp, including FOX Sports Ohio's Hal McCoy, that he and the Reds are getting closer to a multi-year extension, though he didn't comment on specific parameters.
"We're going in the right direction," Bailey said. "The majority of it is worked out."
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said on Sunday that enough progress had been made with Bailey and that they expected a deal would get done.
The extension will reportedly be in the six-year, $100 million range, covering Bailey's final year of arbitration and his first five years of free agency.
Bailey, 27, had a 3.49 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 199/54 K/BB ratio in 209 innings last season.
