Rangers offering contracts to all unsigned players

The Texas Rangers will tender contracts to all 26 of the unsigned players on their major league roster.

Texas had until 11 p.m. Monday night to make that decision.

The key five players in the 26 are first baseman Mitch Moreland, outfielder Craig Gentry and pitchers Alexi Ogando, Neal Cotts and Neftali Feliz.

All five of them are arbitration eligible and if the club opted not to tender them contracts, they would have become free agents.

Gentry, Ogando, Cotts and Feliz figure to have prominent roles for the Rangers next year, so the decision to offer them contracts comes as no surprise. Moreland's role on next season's team remains to be seen. While Moreland was the primary first baseman for the Rangers this season, that role now belongs to Prince Fielder.
