Rangers lose Murphy to Indians

David Murphy's run with the Texas Rangers has come to an end.

According to Foxsports.com's Ken Rosenthal, Murphy has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cleveland Indians. The news was first reported by Jamie Kelly, who broke the news on Twitter (@JamieSportsTalk) after getting the news from a Twitter follower whose child went to the same daycare at Murphy's daughter.

The left-handed hitting Murphy is coming off the worst season of his big-league career. He batted just .220 for Texas in 2013 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI. He saw his playing time limited down the stretch because of his offensive struggles.

Despite the subpar season, the Rangers got plenty out of Murphy after acquiring him from Boston before the trade deadline in 2007 as part of the Eric Gagne trade.

He was the team's rookie of the year in 2008 and one of their best hitters down the stretch in both 2011 and 2002. The former first rounder out of Baylor hit a career high .304 in 2012 and finished his Texas career with 85 home runs.

The loss of Murphy leaves Craig Gentry as the Ranger on the roster with the most experience in left field from last year. Gentry saw action in 27 games in left.
