Former catcher Ivan Rodriguez, one of the best Texas Rangers of all time, might have a presence in spring training with the team this year.
Rodriguez announced his retirement from baseball last year in Arlington after 21 years in the majors, 13 of which were with the Rangers.
"That is something that we're working on," Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "We're anticipating he's going to be in spring training, not for the whole thing, not at the beginning, but for a period of time. We're still in the process of talking to him and finalizing something, a role within the relationship, that we hope will be official. That is something we're looking at and talking to him about."
Rodriguez said when he retired last year he would like to be involved with the Rangers. He won the 1999 American League Most Valuable Player award while with Texas. He was a 14-time All-Star selection and won 13 Gold Gloves in his career.
