SURPRISE, Ariz. – Colby Lewis took another step in his bid to return from right flexor tendon surgery Friday as he was cleared to throw from 135 feet.

Lewis will throw from 135 feet Saturday and if all goes well, again on Monday and Wednesday. That would be followed by three rounds of throwing from 150 feet. If there are no setbacks, the next step would be for Lewis to throw from a mound.

Lewis hasn't pitched in a game since last July 18 and had his surgery July 27.

Lewis isn't the only key pitcher doing well in his rehab. Joakim Soria threw a 20-pitch bullpen Friday without any issues. Soria, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, will start throwing every other day beginning Monday.
