ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas left-hander Derek Holland has now been with the Rangers for too many off seasons to get concerned when his name comes up in trade rumors.
That doesn't keep it from happening though but now Holland realizes that it's all part of the territory of being a professional baseball player, especially for someone whose name surfaces annually in hot-stove talk.
"I've heard my name has come up," said Holland, who was at an Arlington elementary school Monday promoting fitness. "It was either (Ian) Kinsler and (Jurickson) Profar and I going somewhere. I used to (pay attention) because I didn't know but now it's gotten to the point where every year I'm out there. I can't really worry about it. If I'm going to get traded, I'm going to get traded."
Holland, 26, figures to be one of the rotation locks for Texas next year along with Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison and Martin Perez.
Holland said he normally avoids all baseball news for the first six weeks after the season ends. But he has kept up with the Rangers and is happy the club has re-signed catcher Geovany Soto. Holland said he texted him as soon as he found out about the deal.
As for baseball, Holland said he'll resume a throwing program in mid-December.
Holland, who is signed through the 2016 season with the Rangers holding options for 2017 and 2018, went 10-9 in 2013 with a career best 3.42 ERA. He also set career marks in innings, starts and strikeouts while leading the Rangers in starts and innings pitched.
