Rangers' Beltre strains hamstring
DETROIT -- Texas Rangers All-Star Adrian Beltre left the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers with a strained left hamstring.
Beltre was on the disabled list for five weeks late last season with an injury to the same hamstring, but Rangers manager Ron Washington said things aren't as bad this time.
"No, no. It's not even close to last year," he said. "He felt a pinch, not that yank you get when you've really strained it. We'll give him tonight and tomorrow off, and have it looked at when we get home."
The Rangers led 8-0 after the first inning, and Beltre led off the second with a double to left. His stride altered as he rounded first, and he grabbed at the back of his left leg as he reached second.
First-base coach Gary Pettis immediately went to check on Beltre, and was quickly followed by Washington and the Rangers trainer. After a short consultation, Beltre came out of the game.
"He didn't want to walk off the field - he's a proud man," Washington said. "He told us that he would be careful, but it wasn't happening. We're going to keep a slight injury as a slight injury."
