ARLINGTON, Texas – It took two days for the Texas Rangers to make their first roster move.

The club designated catcher Chris Gimenez for assignment and purchased the contract of right-hander Daniel McCutchen from Triple A Round Rock.

McCutchen will serve as the team's long man. He's made 15 starts in his big-league career and has a 4.77 ERA in 108 games. He hasn't played in the majors since he was with Pittsburgh in 2012.

The addition of McCutchen gives the Rangers an eight-man bullpen.

Gimenez was picked up on waivers last week from Oakland and played in one exhibition game. The club has 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.

Left-hander Michael Kirkman is also staying with the organization. Kirkman was designated for assignment last Friday but wasn't claimed on waivers. He's been sent to Round Rock.
