The Texas Rangers continued to add spring training depth Saturday, agreeing to terms with utility man Jeff Baker and left-hander Nate Robertson on minor-league deals with invitations to spring training.
Baker is an eight-year vet who spent the 2012 season playing for the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves. He hit just .239 in 2012 but is a .266 career hitter and can play both corner infield spots as well as the corner outfield spots.
His best season came in 2008 when he hit 12 homers with 48 RBIs for Colorado.
Robertson hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2010 and spent part of last year playing independent ball. He has a 57-77 major-league mark with a 5.01 ERA.
The Rangers now have 59 players on their spring training roster. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Surprise, Ariz., Feb. 12.
