GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Randall Cobb will be out at least eight weeks after the Green Bay Packers opted to place their star receiver on injured reserve with the designation to return.
The NFL's designated-to-return rule allows Cobb to practice in six weeks, but he won't be eligible to play for eight weeks. That means it will be Week 15 when Cobb is first able to return to game action, when the Packers go on the road to face the Dallas Cowboys.
Cobb, who leads Green Bay with 29 receptions this season, fractured his fibula in Week 6 when he was hit near the knee by Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam.
The Packers also placed backup offensive lineman Greg Van Roten (foot) on injured reserve. Van Roten will be out the remainder of the season.
Taking those two spots on Green Bay's roster are undrafted rookie tight end Jake Stoneburner and undrafted rookie wide receiver Myles White, both of whom had been on the practice squad all season and were with the Packers throughout all of training camp.
Green Bay added linebacker Victor Aiyewa to the practice squad, taking up one of the spots vacated by Stoneburner and White.
