Rams announce preseason schedule

Published Apr. 4, 2012 2:42 p.m. ET

The St. Louis Rams will kick off their 2012 preseason in Indianapolis as they face Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in the opening week of preseason play.

The Rams’ preseason slate also includes home games against the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens and a road contest in Dallas. Specific dates and times for the preseason contests will be announced at a later date. All four contests will be broadcast locally and regionally on the Rams Broadcast Network.

Prior to this season, the Rams have never visited Indianapolis in the preseason. The opener will mark the second-consecutive year the Rams have opened the preseason against the Colts, but the contest is just the third ever preseason contest between the two clubs. The Rams kicked off their 2011 preseason with a 33-10 victory over the Colts in St. Louis.

The Rams and Chiefs will continue their preseason battle for the Governor’s Cup when the cross-state rivals square off at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis’ second preseason contest. This year’s contest will be the 22nd preseason meeting between the teams, with the Rams holding a 13-8 advantage in the series. Last August, the Rams defeated the Chiefs, 14-10, at Arrowhead Stadium.

In their third week of preseason play, the Rams will travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys. The game will be the 24th preseason meeting between the teams but their first since the Rams visited Texas Stadium in 2000.

For the second time in three years, the Rams close out the preseason with a home game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Rams and Ravens have only previously met once in the preseason. St. Louis won their 2010 finale over Baltimore, a game that was played at the Edward Jones Dome.
