Rafael Bejarano, Bob Baffert take titles at Los Alamitos winter meet
Reno Rebel led most of the way to win the $48,406 by 1-1/2 lengths Sunday on closing day of the winter meet at Los Alamitos.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Reno Rebel ran six furlongs in 1:08.28 and paid $6.20, $3.60 and $2.80 as the 2-1 favorite.
Conscience returned $3.60 and $3 as the 5-2 second choice, while Brando the Birdman was another 1-1/2 lengths back in third and paid $3.80 to show in losing for the first time on dirt.
Bejarano rode another winner on the card to clinch the jockeys' title with 12 victories, two more than runner-up Tyler Baze.
Reno Rebel has four wins in 12 career starts and earnings of $134,235. He was claimed after the race for $40,000 by trainer Peter Miller on behalf of new owners.
Hall of Famer Bob Baffert earned the trainers' title with eight wins at the short meet, one more than runner-up Phil D'Amato.
