Former Texas Rangers catcher Ivan Rodriguez has officially rejoined the organization as a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels.

Rodriguez will also serve as a team ambassador and an instructor.

He's expected to join the organization in Surprise, Ariz. late next week and will also likely help the team in March.

Rodriguez is expected to work with players at both the major and minor-league level as well as help with talent evaluation. He will also help with amateur, professional and international scouting.

Rodriguez retired after 21 years in the majors last year at a ceremony in Arlington.

He had two stints with the Rangers from 1991 to 2002 and also ended the 2009 season with Texas. He made the All-Star team 14 times and won 13 Gold Gloves. He is the all-time leader in games caught with 2,427 games. He helped propel Texas to three American League West titles in the 1990s and was the 1999 AL MVP after hitting .332 with 35 home runs and 113 RBI.
