Price expects to make next start after leaving Friday's game early
DETROIT -- It didn't look good when it happened but David Price is hopeful.
Price, running to back up a throw home, stepped on Alex Gordon's bat and tweaked his right hamstring Friday night, forcing him out of the game.
Price went for an MRI Saturday morning.
The Tigers announced before Saturday afternoon's game that the MRI revealed a mild right hamstring strain.
After Price returned to the clubhouse following the MRI, he said he expected to make his next scheduled start.
"Yeah, I feel fine," Price said. "It's just when things happen to you that never happened before, it's just scary."
With the off day Monday, the Tigers have a little flexibility in case Price is not quite ready for Thursday.
The Tigers said the date for Price's next start would be determined early next week.
"I spoke to Kevin (Rand, head athletic trainer), and he said he looked good, and that David felt pretty good about it," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "He wasn't limping, and had minimal soreness. That's a big plus."
It was just a freak occurrence because home plate umpire Alan Porter had moved Gordon's bat off of home plate in case of a play there, but it ended up right where Price stepped on it.
"He just threw it in a bad spot," Price said. "I know he didn't mean to. It's just one of those things that happen. I'm a fan of Al's so it's all right."
