Podcast: Can Gonzaga run West region?

March 20, 2013

ATLANTA -- As the top seed in the West region, Gonzaga is finally getting its best shot at making the Final Four.

After rolling through a relatively weak WCC schedule--although, it should be mentioned, non-conference wins over tourney teams Davidson, Oklahoma State and Kansas State look strong--Mark Few's bunch enters the March equation with plenty of skeptics. Can they finally take the next step? Are they a legitimate contender? Are they even the best team in their own regional?

The good news for Gonzaga is that the We opened up with a manageable field: seeds Nos. 1-6 are Ohio State, New Mexico, Kansas State, Wisconsin and Arizona. Other than the Buckeyes, who enter the Big Dance on a hot streak after winning the tough Big Ten tournament, neither of the remaining high seeds provide un-winnable matchups.

Our FOX Sports South college basketball team--Zach Dillard, Jay Clemons and Cory McCartney--convened to talk about the potential challenges facing Gonzaga, as well as other top storylines. Here are the highlights:

-- Can Kelly Olynyk and the Zags avoid an early-round upset from the 16th-seeded Southern or the winner of Pittsburgh-Wichita State?

-- Is it smart to underestimate the (sometimes boring) Wisconsin Badgers this time of year?

-- Arizona and New Mexico are both talented teams, but can they make it out of the regional from the 6- and 3-seed spots, respectively?

-- Is Ohio State the most complete and/or best team in this region?
