Player who took out Schaub's ear trying out for Texans?

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub's ears may be safe.

Joe Mays, who knocked a piece of Schab's earlobe off last season, will get to an opportunity to try out for the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Mays' illegal blow cost the former Denver Bronco a one-game suspension and a $50,000 fine.

Luckily for Schaub, the free-agent linebacker may start delivering big hits for his defense.

Just a few weeks after his return, Mays' season was cut short after suffering a fractured fibula against the New Orleans Saints.

He played the first six games with the Broncos last season, finishing with seven total tackles and 0.5 sacks.

Denver released him last week after three seasons with the team.
