Phoenix FC looks for revenge vs. Los Angeles
The Phoenix FC Wolves will try to exact revenge on the Los Angeles Blues when they host a rematch on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Phoenix (1-2-0) played its inaugural USL Pro League game against the Blues in California on March 23 and suffered a 2-0 loss. The Wolves played without starters Devon Grousis and Darren mackie due to injuries, and starting midfielder Anthony Obodai received a
red card late in the first half, forcing Phoenix to play for more than one half with just 10 players.
Grousis returned to the lineup on March 30, and Mackie made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in the April 7 match against Orlando City SC.
“In our first match against Los Angeles, we were encouraged by the physical play, but there is no doubt we also felt some first-game nerves,” said managing director Rui Filipe Bento. “We have since grown into a more cohesive unit with much better on-field chemistry, and the players are eager for a shot at revenge against what is shaping up as a league rivalry.”
Phoenix is hoping to be at full health this week. Jose Ramos, who suffered a dislocated toe in a training match earlier this season, is listed as a game-time decision.
Los Angeles (2-1-0) is coming off of a home win against Orlando City SC. Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski, formerly of Chicago Fire, has allowed just one goal in two games this season.
