Phoenix FC hosts two-time champs
The Phoenix FC Wolves look to build upon their successful home debut of last week when they host the two-time defending USL Pro regular-season champion Orlando City SC at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Phoenix is 1-1 after its 1-0 victory over Tampa Bay in its first home game last week. Orlando City will be playing its first USL Pro game of the season after defeating the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League last weekend.
Orlando City features features several players with Major League Soccer and/or national team experience, including midfielder Jean Alexandre (Real Salt Lake/Haiti), forward Dom Dwyer (Sporting Kansas City), forward Long Tan (Vancouver Whitecaps FC/China U-23s), midfielder Freddie Braun (Portland Timbers) and forward Jamie Watson (Real Salt Lake). Goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo from Mexico was the USL Pro Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 and holds the USL Pro record with 11 shutouts in a season.
Orlando City has won the last two USL PRO regular seasons and won the outright championship in 2011.
The Wolves will be hoping to capitalize on their home crowd, which turned out in sellout fasion (4,198) for the opener. Phoenix sent the crowd home happy, as Andrew Weber made six saves to make a first-half goal by Brazil's Netinho stand up.
Phoenix FC hopes to have veteran forward Darren Mackie return to the lineup this week after he missed the first two games with a groin injury.
