Adrian Peterson has overcome painful injuries in the past 15 months, now he's feeling the pain again.
Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings' MVP running back, felt like he took his latest shots Monday after Minnesota reportedly agreed to trade wide receiver Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks for three draft picks, including the No. 25 overall pick in April's draft.
Losing the teams' top receiving threat hit Peterson hard.
"The best all around player I ever seen or you'll ever see! Goes to Seattle!," Peterson wrote Monday on his Twitter account (@AdrianPeterson). "I feel like I just got kicked in the stomach. Several times!!!"
Peterson, who overcame major knee surgery and then played through a sports hernia to win the MVP award last season with 2,097 rushing yards, did most of his damage last year while Harvin was on injured reserve with an ankle injury. But Minnesota's top offensive player is certainly sad to see the Vikings' other top offensive playmaker on his way to Seattle.
FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported Monday morning that Harvin was traded to Seattle in exchange for first- and seventh-round draft picks this year and a third-rounder next year. The trade leaves Minnesota with only Jarius Wright (22 catches in his rookie year last season), Stephen Burton (seven catches in his two NFL seasons), Greg Childs (no sure thing while recovering from torn patellar tendons in both knees as a rookie) and practice squad player Chris Summers.
Harvin led the Vikings with 62 catches last year with 677 receiving yards, while missing the final seven games with a badly sprained ankle. Over the final seven weeks, Peterson topped 100 yards six times and crossed 200 yards twice while strengthening his MVP resume. He averaged 162.9 yards per game without Harvin last year as Minnesota rode its feature back to a playoff appearance by winning five of its final seven games without Harvin.
The only games Peterson had under 100 yards during the final stretch was an 86-yard game against Houston when Peterson was slowed by a sports hernia, with the Vikings resting him in the second half of a 23-6 win.
Harvin has reunited with former Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and former Vikings receiver Sidney Rice in Seattle, and Peterson wished Harvin the best in his new home.
"I wish my boy Percy nothing but success! God bless you homie," Peterson tweeted.
