Perine named Offensive player of the week by Big 12; Sanchez picks up honor
Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine ran for 201 yards against Texas Tech Saturday. The sophomore was named the Big 12's offensive player of the week on Monday.
It was the most yards for Perine since last year when he ran for 427 against Kansas, setting the NCAA single-game rushing record.
Perine has four games of 200-plus yards. He's averaging 88.7 yards per game this season and 5.4 yards per carry a year after leading the Big 12 in rushing yards.
Junior cornerback Zack Sanchez was named a Thorpe Award semifinalist. The award goes to the nation's top defensive back.
Kevin Peterson of Oklahoma State is the only other Big 12 player to be a semifinalist.
Sanchez has 11 career interceptions, three of which he has returned for a touchdown. Sanchez had two interceptions against Kansas State. He was hurt on the first play of the game against Texas Tech.
