Perez to return to Rangers Friday

The plan has come together for Martin Perez and the Texas Rangers.

Texas was hoping to have the left-hander, who had Tommy John surgery last year, pitch for the Rangers after the All-Star break and that will be the case. The club will activate Perez before Friday's game at Houston and he'll make his 2015 debut that night against the Astros.

Right-hander Colby Lewis will start Saturday's game against Houston and Yovani Gallardo will draw the Sunday start.

Perez hasn't started for Texas since last May 10 and he had surgery on May 19. He made six rehab starts this year, going 0-1 with a 4.56 ERA. His last start came Sunday when he threw 96 pitches in six innings, allowing 12 hits and five earned runs.

Perez was the club's pitcher of the month last April after starting the season 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA. He was 4-3 with a 4.38 mark before the surgery.

Texas optioned right-hander Roman Mendez to Triple A Round Rock to clear a roster spot for Perez. The club won't have to make a 40-man move to activate Perez from the disabled list and they currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
