Pelicans debut new jerseys for inaugural season

The New Orleans Pelicans have a refreshed roster and now a new look for the team's upcoming inaugural season.

Thursday the team unveiled its new uniforms, which are classic and pay homage to the Crescent City.

"What I like most is that they've got a clean look to them that just stands out. That's what we worked on very hard," Team owner Tom Benson said.

Players Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith modeled the new uniforms inside the team's nearly completed state-of-the-art training facility.

"I love them. I love the colors," Anderson said. "Ever since this logo came out, everybody loves it. I think it's awesome to have on the jersey. It's just great. I love how it represents the city."

The uniforms feature the words "New Orleans" on the front of both the home and road jerseys, making the Pels one of only three teams in the NBA to wear its city's name on the front of both jerseys.

The Pels' home uniforms will be white; the road jerseys will be dark blue.

"I think that they did a really good job with the uniforms. It hit home when you finally get to see it and put it on. I took a deep breath," Smith said. "I knew that they would do a great job with the jerseys, but once you finally put it on it really justifies it."

Anyone who's ever strolled through the French Quarter may notice the word mark on both uniforms resembles the Vieux Carre's street signs.

"Clearly my grandfather likes some things that are more conservative," Rita Benson LeBlanc, Vice Chairman of the Board said. "There are other things that I liked that are more edgy, the Bird-de-Lis looks kind of rock-and-roll. The lettering comes from the street signs of the city, whether it's 'NOLA' or the 'Crescent City' these are our elements and things that are city and community really own. That's what we wanted to convey to the world and we're doing it through our uniforms."
