Pelicans' Davis named Western Conference Player of the Week

Just a few days after turning 22-year-old, the Pelicans Anthony Davis reached another career milestone: receiving his first Western Conference Player of the Week honor.

It's hard to believe, but the 2-time All Star has not received this honor before. The last New Orleans player to snag Player of the Week honors was Greivis Vasquez back in 2010.

Davis is coming off a historic stat line vs the Denver Nuggets: Sunday he flirted with a quadruple double, ending with 36 points, 14 rebounds, a career high 7 assists and a career-tying 9 blocks. Since blocks started being recorded in 1973-74, Davis is first in NBA history with that stat line.

If the season ended today, Davis would have the 7th highest PER in NBA history with 31.6. Wilt Chamberlain has top spot with 31.8 (1962-63).

However Davis' heroics were not enough Sunday: New Orleans lost the double overtime game to Denver, a disappointing setback in the team's come-from-behind playoff push.

"It's tough when you play that hard, but you don't play that well- and you come up short," Davis said after the loss. "It's a tough one, especially in the position we're in. But we have to move on and get ready for our next game."

The next game could yield another Davis highlight reel. The Milwaukee Bucks visit the Smoothie King Center Tuesday night.

Davis is averaging 28 points versus Bucks: his highest mark against any team. New Orleans triumphed over the Bucks in Milwaukee last week. Davis torched Milwaukee, matching his career-high in scoring with 43 points.
