Pavelec 'Awake, Alert'

At 9:46 p.m. the Atlanta Thrashers released an update on the status of goalie Ondrej Pavelec, saying he was "awake, alert and asking about the score of the game, but will be kept overnight for observation."

The statement also said preliminary tests were negative. However, a member of the team's media relations staff did not immediately know what Pavelec was tested for.

At the 2:25 mark of the first period of the season opener against the Washington Capitals at Philips Arena, Pavelec, Atlanta's starting goalie, collapsed to the ice and was removed on a stretcher after about 10 minutes of receiving medical attention from team doctors and emergency personnel.

The Thrashers issued the following statement during the first period of play:
