Paul, Griffin named to All-NBA team
Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul was selected to the 2011-12 All-NBA First Team, becoming the first Clippers player since the team moved to Los Angeles in 1984 to be recognized with a first team selection. Clippers forward Blake Griffin was named to the All-NBA Second Team.
Paul is the second player in franchise history to earn a spot on the All-NBA First Team, joining Bob McAdoo in 1974-75 when the team was the Buffalo Braves. The last Clippers player to receive All-NBA honors was Elton Brand in 2006 (Second Team).
Paul received 74 first team votes in making the second All-NBA First Team selection of his career (2008). Paul paced the league in steals (2.53 spg) and finished third in assists (9.1 apg), adding 19.8 ppg and 3.5 rpg. He posted 23 double-doubles, tying for 16th overall. Paul this season became only the second player (Tim Hardaway, 1990-91) in NBA history to average at least 19.0 points, 9.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Paul was an All-NBA Third Team choice in 2011 and made the Second Team in 2009.
Joining Paul on the First Team are LeBron James of the Miami Heat, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.
In just his second full season, Griffin was selected to his first All-NBA Team, playing in all 82 games and leading the Clippers in scoring (20.8 ppg) and rebounds (10.9 rpg). Griffin was the only player in the NBA in 2011-12 to average over 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Griffin shot 54.9 percent from the field and finished the season 4th in the league with 41 double-doubles, 6th in rebounds, 7th in field goal percentage and 10th in scoring. Griffin is a two-time All-Star and the 2010-11 Rookie of The Year.
On the All-NBA Second Team with Griffin are guards Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, forward Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and center Andrew Bynum of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The All-NBA Third Team includes the Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade and the Boston Celtics' Rajon Rondo at guard, the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony and the Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki at forward, and the Knicks' Tyson Chandler at center.
The All-NBA Teams were chosen by a panel of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The media voted for All-NBA First, Second and Third Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.
