Panthers' Vincent Trocheck fined $2,000 for diving
Florida Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck has been fined $2,000 as supplementary discipline for taking a dive during Florida's 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Jan. 4, the National Hockey League announced Wednesday.
Midway through the third period, with the Capitals already on the penalty kill, Trocheck was skating in the vicinity of Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik when a subtle jab to the legs from the veteran blueliner sent him tumbling enthusiastically to the ice.
There was no embellishment penalty assessed on the play as Orpik received a two-minute penalty for slashing.
The Panthers would eventually fail to score on the two-man advantage and the power play would expire with nothing to show for it.
According to the NHL, Trocheck had already been issued a warning for a previous embellishment during Florida's 3-2 shootout win against the Detroit Red Wings on Dec. 12.
Trocheck is the third player this season to receive supplemental discipline for diving, joining Nashville's James Neal and Detroit's Gustav Nyquist.
