Padres put C Bethancourt on DL with intercostal strain

ATLANTA (AP) -- The San Diego Padres have put catcher Christian Bethancourt on the 15-day disabled list with a left intercostal strain.

The Padres recalled catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A El Paso.

Bethancourt left Tuesday night's 7-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves with the injury in the fourth inning. He was hurt on a swing in his last at-bat. He is hitting .228 with six homers and 25 RBIs in 73 games.

Sanchez is making his second appearance with San Diego after being acquired off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on May 11. He hit .313 in 14 games in his first stint with the team.

Derek Norris is the starting catcher in Wednesday night's game against the Braves.
