Pac-10 basketball midseason report

The best thing that could happen to the Pac-10 this year would be a lockout by the NBA.

The four best players in the conference this year are underclassmen, and while it is unlikely that Washington point guard Isaiah Thomas would forego his final year of eligibility to declare for the NBA draft, it seems a foregone conclusion that sophomore Derrick Williams and junior Klay Thompson will come out, as might junior Nikola Vucevic.

Williams is a consensus top 10 pick in the various 2011 NBA mock drafts making the rounds, as high as No. 2 on one board. Thompson, the son of former NBA star Mychal Thompson, is a smooth shooter with a high basketball IQ.

For a conference that is suffering from a talent deficiency after recent departures, it would be nice to keep the good guys around for another year.
