COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer's quote about the Buckeyes "wiping the floor" with some of the nation's top teams made its rounds Monday afternoon.

Quickly.

That's what happens in 2013.

By Monday night, Spencer had taken to Twitter not for an apology but for a clarification, writing that he "did not mean to disrespect any (football) team today."

That, also, is what happens in 2013.

In a group interview Monday afternoon, Spencer was asked about Ohio State's No. 3 ranking in the new BCS standings and what he thought would happen if Ohio State played No. 1 Alabama and some of the nation's other top teams.

"I guess I'm biased, but I think we would wipe the field with both of them," Spencer said. "That's just my bias speaking."

Asked to clarify who besides Alabama he meant when he said "both," Spencer said "whoever."

The real clarification came later, after the story created national buzz on Twitter and all over the Internet. Joining the Monday night tweeting was Ohio State spokesman Jerry Emig, who wrote that "Evan is an articulate young man who regrets his moment of over-enthusiasm. His comment was said with humor and with no intent to disrespect."

Spencer has 21 catches and three touchdowns this season. And tonight, a bunch more college football fans know his name than did when the day started.
