Only 25 letters in the alphabet at Ohio State this week

If there was any doubt Ohio State-Michigan week has arrived, someone on campus in Columbus removed it by taking the time to cross out a certain letter on the Ohio historical marker for legendary head coach Woody Hayes.

Hayes passed away in 1987, but there is little doubt he would approve of this practice.

He popularized the phrase, "That Team Up North" to refer to the Wolverines, and Ohio State leads the series 32-27-2 since Hayes was hired as head coach of the Buckeyes in 1951. (They are 44-58-6 against Michigan overall with one game vacated in 2010 because of NCAA violations.)

Monday at his weekly press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, current Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer again recounted how he grew up learning to dislike Michigan as Hayes was holding "The Ten-Year War" with Wolverines head coach Bo Schembechler (one of his former assistants) from 1969-78.

When it was pointed out to Meyer he had said the word "Michigan" while telling the tale, he quickly apologized.
