Olympian Nick Goepper picks Kent State student for dream date
Cleverly crafted lyrics and a penchant for playing guitar have helped an Ohio student land a date with an Olympian.
Nick Goepper, the American who won a bronze medal in ski slopestyle at the Sochi games, wasn't satisfied with just earning hardware. His medal-winning moment came a day before Valentine's Day and the 19-year-old was without a special someone.
When you earn a medal at the Olympics, you can change that by going on national TV and asking for a date.
Goepper put on his own "The Bachelor"-style contest, asking ladies to show why they want to go out with him using #IWantToDateNick. His plan worked, as the hashtag trended and story went viral.
But now, after all the submissions, Goepper has made a decision and the lucky winner is a northeast Ohio woman who goes to Kent State.
Nice work @Annabelle__R!!! Your video was amazing and I can't wait to hang out!! http://t.co/bHvipcQGn9 pic.twitter.com/xrK6N3z0Ej

Annie Rogers earned the date by repurposing Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" with lyrics like "I'm not gonna lie, I don't know how to ski//But I've got a major in biology" tailored to Goepper.
"I had seen an interview Nick did before the Olympics and thought he seemed like such a sweet guy so I figured I had nothing to lose by entering the contest," Rogers said in an email. "I decided instantly that I would sing for my video because it's something I'm really comfortable doing and 'I'm Yours' was the first song that came to mind."
Rogers anxiously awaited the decision, staring at Twitter while on the phone with her friend.
"All of a sudden there is a picture of my face right there. We both screamed a little, as to be expected, but even then I was still in disbelief for a few minutes," she said.
No details about the date have emerged yet, though Rogers said she has heard rumors about New York City.
And what's a college student to do after learning about a date with an Olympian?
Well, I got a date with @NickGoepper, but for now it's back to reality. These immunology notes aren't going to study themselves. ?

We hope they hit it off because, though marriage may be a long way away, their wedding would be totally awesome for reasons like this.
What if @NickGoepper marries her. I call ring bearer!

"I have only heard good things about Nick and I think we will have an awesome time together, but let's just take it one date at a time," Rogers said. "But I will say, I would be totally cool with Sage being the ring-bearer at my wedding no matter who I marry!"
