Oklahoma TE Andrews hoping for more receptions

Oklahoma Sooners freshman tight end Mark Andrews says he's open.

But he's not going back to the huddle and complaining to quarterback Baker Mayfield.

"No, I wouldn't do that. I'm not there yet," Andrews said. "I trust Baker and what he has to do. He'll make the right choices."

Andrews scored his first touchdown on a 61-yard reception from Mayfield against Tulsa. He scored again later in the game and had 87 yards receiving for the game. In his first game, Andrews had four catches against Akron.

Andrews was rated as the No. 7 tight end out of Scottsdale, Ariz. (Desert Mountain High). He had 68 catches last season in high school, including 17 touchdowns.

Oklahoma has some notable tight ends over the years, including Keith Jackson, Stephen Alexander and Jermaine Gresham. All long-time NFL players. Even James Hanna, who played at OU recently, is still in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.

That's something Andrews knows a bit about.

"I grew up watching Jermaine Gresham," Andrews said. "I'm looking to follow in their footsteps."
