Ohio State hosting 4 highly regarded women's basketball prospects this weekend
Much like Urban Meyer and Thad Matta, Ohio State women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff is using the prime-time football game between the Buckeyes and Wisconsin to showcase what his program has to offer recruits.
Two in-state verbal commitments – four-star forwards Makayla Waterman of Kettering Fairmont and Alexa Hart of Columbus Africentric – are visiting this weekend along with uncommitted prospects Kathryn Westbeld of Kettering Fairmont and Asia Doss of Detroit Country Day.
Westbeld, a five-star forward and a long-time teammate of Waterman, is the No. 21 player in the country according to recently updated recruiting rankings from ESPN/Hoopgurlz.com. Though they are open to playing together in college, Westbeld and Waterman have said they would make their decisions separately. Westbeld has an official visit schedule to Notre Dame in October and is expected to make her decision after that.
Doss is a four-star point guard who is reportedly down to a final three of Ohio State, Illinois and Purdue, according to the Lafayette Journal and Courier.
Hart, Waterman and Cincinnati Princeton sisters Kelsey and Chelsea Mitchell comprise McGuff’s first OSU recruiting class so far.
Kelsey Mitchell is No. 3 in the country in the new Hoopgurlz ratings while Waterman is No. 69 and Hart No. 82. Doss is No. 92.
