Oakland topples Southern Utah 81-65

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) -- Reggie Hamilton scored a season-high 23 points and Oakland, Mich., shot 52.5 percent as it opened its Summit League season by whipping Southern Utah 81-65 on Thursday night.

Keith Benson had a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (4-3), who made 32 of 61 shots. Drew Valentine had 12 points and a career-high seven assists, and Will Hudson scored 11.

Ray Jones led the Thunderbirds (2-5) with 13 points and a career-best seven assists, Tyler Koehler went 6-for-6 in scoring 12 off the bench, and Ryan Brimley had 12, all on 3-pointers.

Oakland won the board battle 35-31, just the second time all season Southern Utah has been outrebounded.

The Grizzlies ran their home winning streak against league opponents to 21 games and their regular-season league streak to nine.
