FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- An Arizona medical examiner says a Norwegian swimming champion who collapsed at a training camp in April died of a heart disease.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office said Tuesday that 26-year-old Alexander Dale Oen suffered from atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, which means Dale Oen would have had arterial blockages.
Dale Oen was conducting pre-Olympic training April 30 in Flagstaff when he went into cardiac arrest.
The swimmer became a symbol of resilience and resurgence in Norway when he won the 100-meter breaststroke at last year's world championships in Shanghai. His victory came three days after a bombing and shooting spree by Anders Breivik killed 77 people in Norway.
