North Korean goalkeeper banned from U-17 World Cup after allowing a bad goal
Back in September in the U-16 Asian Football Confederation Championship match between Uzbekistan and North Korea, North Korean goalkeeper Jang Paek Ho ventured pretty far from the box and allowed the opposing goalkeeper to score.
The young man raced hopelessly after the ball to no avail and on Friday, the Asian Football Confederation imposed a 12-month ban on Jang Paek Ho and North Korea under-16 team coach Yung Jong Su for "bringing the game into disrepute," according to the Associated Press.
In effect, the Asian body banned Yung and Jang from competing in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indian in October 2017.
North Korea's 3-1 loss to Uzbekistan (the goal in question opened the scoring in the first half) set the team up for an easier match against Oman in the quarterfinals, and an eventual qualification for the FIFA tournament. The AFC also levied fines against the North Korean soccer federation, Jang and Yung for $20,000, $5000 and $1,000, respectively.
