No. 10 Gophers outlast No. 6 Ohio State 2-1

Brent Gates Jr. and Jack Glover each scored to lead No. 10 Minnesota past No. 6 Ohio State 2-1 at 3M Arena at Mariucci.



Goalie Mat Robson made 21 saves to pick up the win for the Gophers.

Gates Jr. gave Minnesota a 1-0 advantage at 9:02 of the first period when he backhanded a rebound past Buckeye goalie Sean Romeo.

At the 9:43 mark of the second, Glover put Minnesota up by two goals when he rebounded his own blocked shot and rifled one past Romeo.

The Buckeyes broke through with 1:33 remaining in the second as Matt Miller scored on the power play with just six seconds remaining on the man advantage.

Despite a late push by Ohio State in the third, the Gophers were able to hold on down the stretch to earn their sixth win in seven games.

Minnesota outshot the Buckeyes 28-22 on the night.

The series concludes on Saturday at Mariucci.
