NMSU opens home schedule against first Big Ten visitor

The Minnesota Golden Gophers gecome the first Big Ten team to visit Aggie Memorial Stadium when they provide the opposition for New Mexico State's home opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Minnesota is 1-0 after opening its season with a 51-23 home victory over Nevada-Las Vegas. The Aggies are 0-1 following a 56-7 loss at Texas in Doug Martin's debut as head coach.

The two teams met last year in Minneapolis, with New Mexico State pulling off a 28-21 upset for the program's first win against a Big Ten opponent in seven attempts.

Minnesota was outgained 400-320 by UNLV last week but was helped by a kickoff return for a touchdown by Marcus Jones and an interception return for a touchdown by Briean Boddy-Calhoun. Quarterback Phillip Nelson rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 99 yards and one score.

Joshua Bowen had eight receptions for the Aggies in last week's loss and scored their only touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Andrew McDonald. McDonald completed 32 of 46 passes for 242 yards in his first start.
