Antron Brown knows how to go straight.
Tuesday, he'll start to learn whether or not he can turn left.
Brown, the defending NHRA Top Fuel champion and the first African-American driver to win a major motorsports championship in the United States, on Tuesday will test a Toyota Camry at the 0.416-mile Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.
The car Brown will drive is from the Rev Racing team and is raced in the K&N Pro Series, the NASCAR equivalent of "A"-league baseball.
Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the 37-year-old Brown was noncomittal about whether or not he will abandon his 300+ mile per hour Top Fueler to one day enter NASCAR on a full-time basis.
"My deal is I want to get through the test session coming up right now and just take it one step at a time," said Brown. "Just be really focused on it and get everything I can get out of it. It will be great to actually race in a race one time. We're going to take it one step at a time and after this weekend here we can grow from it when we go testing in Virginia. We're going to shoot for that first."
Brown chose to work with Rev Racing, because of its track record of developing young drivers into well-rounded - and highly competitive - racers.
"I know that if I want to get a chance to go oval track racing that I was going to have a good shot at going out there and doing it and learning from this experience then I have to position myself with a great team," Brown said. "I believe a lot in them and I'm just looking forward to this opportunity. Hopefully, we can take it to other levels."
