NFL Quick Hits: Redskins' Reed hopes to play through shoulder injury

BY foxsports • November 29, 2016

Did you appreciate Jordan Reed's Thanksgiving Day performance, when he caught 10 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns? Reed was even more impressive when you consider that he played the second half with a Grade 3 AC joint separation in his left shoulder.

Reed didn't practice Monday, and said that his range of motion in the shoulder is approximately 30 percent. According to the Washington Times, Reed "doesn't believe his shoulder will require surgery, and he also doesn't believe he can hurt it anymore by playing." He's day to day, trying to increase that range of motion, and then hoping to play through significant pain.

Backup plans for Reed's fantasy owners should begin with real-life teammate Vernon Davis, who is owned in 8.9 percent of leagues, and went 8-129-1 while Reed was out for Weeks 6 and 7. After that, I'm partial to Houston's C.J. Fiedorowicz (14.9 percent owned), who has 37 receptions in his last eight games.

In other news ...

Speaking of really good tight ends, the Patriots didn't offer any news Monday on Rob Gronkowski's back injury. Stay tuned.

Colts QB Andrew Luck (concussion) was back at practice Monday, and is expected to play in Week 13 against the Jets. Luck hasn't been officially cleared by an independent neurologist, but it sounds like he will be.

Raiders QB Derek Carr finished Sunday's game with a dislocated pinky, and plans to play in Week 13.

Monday's Packers-Eagles game wasn't too interesting from a fantasy standpoint, but Jordan Matthews' ankle injury helped to open things up for Dorial Green-Beckham (six receptions, 82 yards). Also, the Wendell Smallwood experiment didn't quite work out.

Someone's a little upset about not getting any targets on Sunday ...

Speaking of targets, Chargers WR Tyrell Williams led all wide receivers with 14 of them in Week 12. Williams is WR19 in fantasy PPR scoring, with 51 receptions for 790 yards and five touchdowns. In Weeks 14 through 16, Williams and the Chargers will play very beatable defenses at Carolina, home against the Raiders and at Cleveland. Giddy up!

The Titans and Browns will be off this week, ending the bye season. Should the Titans use Derrick Henry more when they return to action? Head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday that the team has discussed using Henry more in short-yardage situations.

Bills WR Sammy Watkins played just 25 snaps on Sunday, catching three passes for 80 yards. Rex Ryan was non-committal Monday on how much Watkins' role will increase, saying that they'll be "smart with him," and "obviously we all want to get him on the field for the entire game, but I don't know if that's the best thing for him and our football team." Expect the Bills to be cautious with Watkins during practice, and loosen the reins a bit more when gameday comes. If that means 40-50 snaps, Watkins is in the WR3 mix for this week's game at Oakland. Playable, but not a must start.

Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (knee) was back at practice Monday, and hopes to play against the Cowboys Thursday night.

The Jets will start QB Ryan Fitzpatrick again on Monday against the Colts' 30th-ranked pass defense. Fitzpatrick threw for 269 yards with two touchdowns against the Patriots, and at 19 percent ownership isn't a bad streaming option for owners of Marcus Mariota. That's if you can't get Colin Kaepernick, of course.

Looking ahead, Bucs RB Charles Sims (knee) returned to practice last week and could come off IR for Week 14. Sims is owned in 21.6 percent of leagues.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday that he still expects WR A.J. Green (hamstring) to return this season, but this week's outlook is "partly cloudy."

The Bears' latest loss is LB Danny Trevathan, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sunday. Remember that Kaepernick visits the beat-up Bears this week.
