NFL columnist: Romo's not an elite QB

In an interview last week, Cowboys tight end Jason Witten said Tony Romo was an elite quarterback.

CBSSports.com NFL columnist Clark Judge disagreed with Witten so much that he decided it was time to give a 650-word "refresher course" on elite quarterbacks, which included Judge writing that Witten "has no idea" what an elite QB is.

"Tony Romo is a good quarterback," Judge wrote last Wednesday. "Tony Romo is a tough quarterback. Tony Romo is a winning quarterback. But Tony Romo is not an elite quarterback."

Winning big games and having at least one Super Bowl ring separates Romo from the quarterbacks on Judge’s elite list. Those names included: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

Romo's 12-18 record from December on, one playoff win and only four touchdowns in four playoff games were some of the stats Judge used to aid his argument.

He added: "I want someone who can win in the clutch, and when I think of clutch performers, I don’t think of Tony Romo."
