While interviewing some of the top college football players this past weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, the Dallas Cowboys were hoping to get a better understanding of the type of person they could be selecting in April's Draft.
And a few of those players chatted about their discussions with the Cowboys while speaking with the media on Sunday.
One of those players was Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner doesn't seem like the favorite to be selected by the Cowboys with the ninth overall pick, but team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on Friday that he wouldn't dismiss drafting a player at any position.
"I did have a meeting with the Cowboys last night for 15 minutes," Newton told the Fort Worth Star Telegram on Sunday. "It was one of those teams that I did speak with. As far as any teams right now... I'm not going to get particular [about] which teams that I'm interested in, because right now I'm interested in every single team that's in the NFL who's willing to take me as a player."
A more likely candidate for the Cowboys top pick is Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara. The 6-feet, 205-pounder is viewed as one of the top shutdown defensive backs in the draft, an area the Cowboys could certainly use an upgrade at.
